Thanks to a mysterious basement fire at a New York City court building that left eight people with minor injuries Tuesday, platinum selling rapper Lil Wayne’s sentencing on gun possession charges has been postponed, a court spokesman said.  

The setback marks the second time the 27-year-old’s sentence has been delayed this year.

In early February, Weezy was scheduled to be sentenced to a year in prison after pleading guilty to attempted criminal possession of a weapon (he admitted having a loaded gun on his tour bus in 2007). But that sentencing was delayed because the rapper,  known for his magnificently bling-encrusted smile, had a cracked tooth and needed dental surgery.

From October: “Lil Wayne, born Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., is expected to receive one year in prison, according to a spokeswoman for the New York district attorney’s office. His plea was related to a 2007 weapons possession arrest in New York City; police said a gun was found on his tour bus in Manhattan in July 2007.”

The Jonas bachelors are down to two.

Eldest brother Kevin Jonas tied the knot with Danielle Deleasa on Saturday, according to People. “We’re so happy that we’re finally married and we were able to share the special moment with family, friends and loved ones,” the couple told the mag.

The two reportedly wed in Long Island at a French-style chateau, with 400 guests in attendance, including fellow Disney star Demi Lovato. And despite a New York blizzard, the nuptials moved forward as planned. “The snow only made it look more like a winter wonderland,” Michael Russo, a celebrity event planner who designed a “fairytale forest” for the event, told the mag. “Danielle looked like a princess. Kevin couldn’t stop smiling.”

The bride reportedly wore a strapless Vera Wang gown, as Kevin’s brothers — Joe and Nick — stood by him as his best men. “Kevin has said many times he feels like he met his princess,” Michael said of Danielle, who met the Disney rocker in the Bahamas in 2007. “To see them together you can feel the warmth and the love all around them. They are just perfect for each other.”

Three people have died in Virginia as a result of the major snowstorm on the East Coast, Virginia’s Department of Emergency Management said on Saturday.

The snowstorm prompted an emergency declaration in the nation’s capital, stranded hundreds of motorists, sparked havoc at airports, and threatened to keep hordes of Christmas shoppers indoors.

Ten to 20 inches of snow were predicted for swaths of the country’s mid-Atlantic region. Washington, D.C., Mayor Adrian M. Fenty said the storm — arriving on the last shopping weekend before Christmas — is “perhaps the biggest we’ve seen in several years.”

“We are going to throw everything we have at it to keep the district open for business on this busy pre-holiday weekend,” Fenty said when he announced the snow emergency.

Washington is one of the major cities along the Interstate 95 corridor to be hit by a major winter storm.

The National Weather Service said there is a blizzard warning for the D.C. region, with snowfall accumulations from 12 to 22 inches and 40-mph wind gusts “expected to create whiteout conditions later this afternoon.”

Other areas braving and expecting heavy snow included Baltimore, Maryland, where a blizzard warning has been declared; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; New York; Richmond, Virginia; and regions from Tennessee and North Carolina to the southern New England states.

The new Navy assault ship USS New York steamed into New York harbor Monday, cutting through the water with a bow built using seven and a half tons of steel recovered from the wreckage of the World Trade Center.

Its crew stood at attention and a 21-gun salute greeted the ship. Firefighters, bagpipers, and those who lost loved ones on 9/11 lined the shore to watch the emotional arrival. The docking holds special meaning for many families of those who died in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

“What better way for our young men and women that are going to be on the USS New York to feel the spirit of our country than to have this ship have the steel in the bow that represents not the bad but the good of our country,” said Lee Ielpi, who lost his firefighter son, Jonathan, on 9/11.

The memory of the attacks is etched on the crest of the ship, which features a phoenix rising from the twin towers with the words, “Never Forget.”

?Since SNY hit the air a few years ago it has been a real hit. The sports network covers everything New York including Jets, Mets, Knicks and many more. One of the lead anchors is Brian Custer. Many people dream of being a sports anchor but just how cool is it? We asked Brian, himself.

How did you get your job at SNY? I got my job at SNY back in 2005 before the network went on the air. Our VP, Curt Gowdy Jr. saw my tape and liked it and flew me in from Dallas. We met, had lunch and about a couple days later they offered me the job.

What has it been like working at SNY? Working at SNY has been great because I’ve grown tremendously as a journalist, and what better way than to do it in the #1 market in the country. There are some very talented people who work here and we have quickly turned SNY into one of the best and most watched regional sports networks in the country.

You have worked all over the country. Where do you enjoy working the most? I’ve worked in Columbus, Ohio; Dallas, Texas, and now New York. I would have to rank New York right up there at the top alongside Dallas. Both are great sports towns but New Yorkers are really passionate about their teams and will accept nothing but greatness.

Would you consider yourself a fan of New York sports? I would consider myself a fan of New York sports. Obviously, I am a fan of the Mets and Jets because we have a vested interest in both teams doing well, but I respect the tradition and what the Yankees have accomplished.

Is SNY your dream job come true or do you want to go even farther in the ranks? My tenure here at SNY has been very enjoyable and it has always been a goal to work here in New York. As far as the future holds, who knows. There are so many variables you can’t account for that affect those decisions like family, the economy, and of course money!

Have you ever taken heat or criticism from the tough New York sports fans? Lets face it, viewers are not going to like everything you say and will write in and sometimes they’re right on! It’s going to happen if you work in New York, Dallas, or Tulsa. So yes I’ve gotten my share of angry emails, largely in part because they know I grew up a Dallas Cowboys fan and find it hard to praise anything Giants. Although I try because its my job (LOL).

Do you ever feel hated because you are part of the media? No I’ve never felt hated because of my job because our responsiblility is to inform, educate, entertain, and most importantly be fair and accurate.

Who do you think are some of the most interesting co-workers at SNY? I work and have worked with a number of talented characters here at SNY from Darryl Strawberry to Ray Lucas, to Scott Ferrall, to Brandon Tierney to Adam Schein, to Gary Apple.

What has been your greatest experience when working as a columnist? My greatest experience here at SNY came about 2 years ago when the network sent me to Africa to document how Major League Baseball was trying to introduce the game to the kids there. We put together a 30 minute special and a number of stories and I won an emmy for my work.

Have you ever gotten camera shy or forgotten your lines during a live broadcast? I think every broadcaster has forgotten what they were going to say on air a time or two, most of the time, that embarrassment comes early in your career.

Brian may not get the same publicity?as the people he covers but he is an extremely hard worker who makes SNY a very succesful network. The network has been going for a few years and Brian has already made a big impact. We would like to thank Brian Custer for the interview and wish him the best of luck on his future ventures.

Taylor Swift is joining Cobra Starship, Katy Perry, Russell Brand and Ne-Yo for a special version of the classic “West Side Story” tune “Tonight,” for a promo of the 2009 Video Music Awards’ return to the Big Apple.

MTV News was on hand as she shot her version of the legendary song, which will then be melded together with all the other versions of the track and will air in the days preceding the September 13 show. Swift was very excited to get the chance to show the world her Broadway chops. “It’s gonna be me and a bunch of artists, and we’re shooting individual versions of the song,” she explained. “Mine is shot in a vintage old cab.”?

The country superstar decided that for her part, she was going to show the world that she’s about more than the teardrops on her guitar, making this particular performance all about embracing the song’s 42nd Street roots. “My version of ‘Tonight’ was pretty theatrical, because I listened to the song and I heard the song and I’m just like, ‘There’s no way to do this and not play it up,’ ” she said.

This collaboration should help to make the VMA’s one of the best this year. We should all be very excited, as I know I am.

With her proud mother holding the bible, the Bronx’s own Sonia Sotomayor was officially sworn in as the Supreme Court’s 111th justice Saturday. She is the high court’s first Hispanic – and only third woman in the court’s 220-year history.

Her 82-year-old mother Celina, a widowed Puerto Rican nurse who struggled to raise Sotomayor and her brother alone in a South Bronx housing project, beamed as she watched her daughter raise her hand and say the formal words. In East Harlem, emotional cheers went up – and some tears fell – at a viewing party at the Creole restaurant on Third Avenue.

“Seeing her mother with the bible – wow! What a moment!” said Agnes Rivera, 58, a social worker who was also raised by a single mom across the street from Sotomayor but didn’t know the future justice. “I’m so proud of her,” Rivera said. “For me, it means there is a chance now for our children to go forward and succeed, to continue knocking down barriers.”

Peggy Morales, 47, broke down as history unfolded on the restaurant’s flat screen. “Watching Sotomayor’s mother holding the bible – it made me cry because in so many different ways, my mother held that bible for me,” said

This is truly a great story of a person defying the odds. She worked and fought hard to get to this position and should be looked at as a true hero by many.

The 2009 MTV Video Music Awards nominations are in, and the 26th annual show is shaping up to be a battle of female pop and fashion icons: Beyonc? and Lady Gaga lead the way with nine nods apiece and will face off on September 13 at 9 p.m. for coveted Moonmen in categories like Video of the Year and Best Female Video.

Following closely behind Beyonc? and Gaga is Britney Spears, who nabbed seven nods for her “Womanizer” and “Circus” videos, including in categories like Video of the Year and Best Pop Video. Kanye West, Eminem and Coldplay all received four nominations each.

Bernie Madoff has been sentenced to 150 years in prison, the maximum penalty for his investment frauds.

The decision was handed down today in New York by US District Judge Denny Chin. Prosecutors had asked for this maximum sentence to be imposed, while his defense requested 12 years. Chin is reported to have said that Madoff?s fraud is “staggering” and spanned over two decades.
