I thought we were in a recession. Pat Riley, would you throw a broke college kid some money!? Who’s to put it past him at this point? Yet again the Miami Heat strike deals with two big free agent names. Ray Allen and Rashard Lewis have both agreed to join the Big three in Miami. Allen signed for three years worth $9 million, while Lewis will only be in Miami for one year making the veteran minimum. The two will join three of the top players in the world coming off their most recent NBA championship.
How will they help? How won’t they? Allen is the best 3 point shooter of all time, while Lewis ranks 5th on the active list of most made 3 pointers. Allen shot 46% from the field while averaging 14.2 PPG. Lewis only averaged 7.8 PPG last year due to injuries, but for his career averages 16 PPG. These are solid basketball players here. When you add a future hall of famer to a team with at least two guaranteed hall of famers, you are without a doubt a force to be reckoned with.
The Heat are the favorite yet again this year to win the NBA Finals. They’re the defending champs with more superstars than half the teams in the NBA combined. As long as Wade and James are on the same team, they will continue to be the favorites for years to come, even though the Thunder are extremely young and extremely talented. The Heat feel that Allen and Lewis can contribute to make this team that much better, as they go on an almost impossible run to defend, and repeat as champions.
