Rutgers’ basketball program has recently been a bit shaky, the balances were tipped a bit when they brought on the new coach, Mike Rice. Now, the question is will the the “tipped balance” level out the Rutgers Basketball program or will it fall the other way? Either way this whole situation doesn’t seem to concern Rutgers recruits and new players such as Tyree Graham. During our interview on the phone, Tyree and I talked about Rutgers and Rutgers Basketball’s future, the one he sees with his name in the mix. I asked Tyree why he chose Rutgers and he replied saying

“Rutgers is in the Big East, which can help me and it’s pretty much a deal for me… playing with a coach that I’m familiar with.”

So, not only does he like the program but prefers to be in a familiar environment. The conversations he had with Mike Rice went well for Tyree,

“the conversations were pretty much about doing what I’ve been doing, do things I like to do, and the whole thing is a good situation that opened up for me, I want to win and have a coach that wants to win. So, it’s a win-win situation for the both of us.”

His response to most of my questions were pretty lengthy except his goals for Rutgers but they are to the point.

” My goals for Rutgers are get to the NCAA Tournament and Big East Champs.”

Those two goals are some good goals for the long run, hopefully we will be able to see Tyree and Mike Rice fulfill these goals.
Like I said before, Tyree was not really shaken up by the whole Rutgers coach switch and Mike Rosario leaving situation. This is what he had to say on that:

“I don’t mind being a part of a rebuilding situation. I didn’t feel bad or anything, I just needed to focus on myself and make sure I get ready and help get the program back into a winning program.”

If you didn’t know by now: an interesting fact about Tyree is

Tyree is cousins with John Wall ” Yes, I am cousins with John Wall”

.

Tyree appeared to be very supportive of his cousin even through the whole issue John had with the media and the GPA situation.

” John is a smart dude, that is people for you, they try to let you down in some way or another.”

Good thing is that Tyree says John won’t be too far away from him so the cousins still get to stay close.

” He will be going to Washington and that isn’t far from RU which is good.”

It will be great to see both of them do well on both levels. Tyree says he will help rebuild the Rutgers program. So, now all we can do is sit and watch Tyree do his thing.

Thanks Tyree for doing the interview with us and Good Luck with your season next year at RU!
