Gorgui Dieng may not be the biggest name out there in the class of 2010, but he is a big guy. The 6’10 uncommited Senior from Huntington Prep in West Virginia is originally from Senegal. Recently, his recruiting has picked up a fair amount with lots of interest and offers. It appears that his recruitment might be ending soon.

Last night, Gorgui surprisingly attended the Kentucky/South Carolina game. Gorgui has been targeted by Kentucky for a while now but has yet to be offered. However, they have not and it appears they will not as Gorgui said, “I don’t wanna talk about UK because I don’t think they want me.” One school that does want the Senegal-native is Louisville. He likes Louisville a lot and a few hours after attending the Kentucky game, he took a visit to the Louisville campus for the day.

In his Facebook status he wrotes, “Louisville all day, I love it“. Indeed, he does love it. “I like the people, Coach Pitino, Walter McCarty. He was like 17 years old when he was being recruited by Pitino; now they work together. That shows it can improve a friendship and family at Louisville.” But how close is the senior to pulling the trigger and commiting to a school? “I like Louisville but people know in March where I am gonna go lol.”

He insisted later in the conversation that Cardinals Coach Rick Pitino has been pursuing him greatly. “Coach Pitino went to 5 of my games. He wants to work with me. He recruits me the hardest.” He is currently at Louisville now and it looks like he could commit soon. However, he will not commit on the spot there. Dieng said of his possible commitment, “Not today because I have to talk to my family first and let them know what the reason is that I’m choosing this college.” Asked if he had a date he said, “I will not commit until march 15, I will most likely do that.”

It looks to me like Gorgui Dieng to Louisville is a done deal. Who can blame him for wanting to choose this school though? He loves Coach Pitino. “I want to be ready for the next level. Coach P knows how to prepare kids for that next step.” Considering Pitino and Louisville have produced a number of great players for the next level, I don’t think Gorgui Dieng should be worried. The kid will be a good fit there.

We want to thank Gorgui Dieng for the interview and wish him the best of luck for the rest of his season.

Pitino won’t be there to coach him.

    Why do you say that?

  3. skwerl says:

Because he is one of many bitter Pitino/Louisville haters. There is no question Pitino will be at UL when this kid graduates.
