Sterling Gibbs or Ashton Gibbs? Who would you rather have on your team? Well, the two are both talented. One is playing at Pittsburgh and the other is getting major interest from Pittsburgh as well as many other top schools. Sterling Gibbs is one of the most prominent players in New Jersey and one of the best guards in the nation. We caught up with Sterling to talk about his recruitment and summer.

What is your current list of colleges? My current list is Maryland, Villanova, St. Johns, Seton Hall, Rutgers, Indiana, Pitt, Virginia, Virginia Tech, and DePaul.

Have you taken any visits to schools yet? If so, which schools were they and how did it go? I’ve gone to Maryland, St. Johns, Seton Hall, Pitt, and Villanova. All of the visits went great and I liked all of the schools.

Have you and your family planned a timetable for when you will make your commitment? No we haven’t yet. For right now, I’m just going along and having fun with the whole experience.

What is it that you are looking for in a school? I am looking for a good education, a family environment, and somewhere that I could fit in and play.

Your summer was packed with basketball. How would you say it went? What were your favorite parts? I think I had a good summer. I played a whole lot but I think the highlight of my summer was playing for the USA Developmental National team because there is nothing else like playing for your country.

What are your goals for your final two years of high schools as well as your final year of AAU Basketball? My goal is just to get better every day and to play to the best of my ability. Everything will fall into place from there on.

You play for the New York Panthers. What is it like being coached by Nets Point Guard Rafer Alston? How has he made an impact on you? He’s made an impact on helping me with different parts of my game. The most impressive thing about him is that he always wants to help us out even though he could be somewhere else. He wants to see us succeed.

A while back we interviewed your brother, Ashton Gibbs, of Pittsburgh. Has he tried to impact your recruitment to Pitt? He’s helped me through the whole recruitment process not just only with Pitt but telling me about different schools and what to expect when I get to college. He has been very helpful.

Seton Hall Prep is a great school. However, have you ever considered transferring to a powerhouse?like St. Patrick?s or St. Benedict?s? No, I have never considered it. I love Seton Hall Prep and the people that surround me there. I think I’m already in the perfect situation.

Lastly, when do you plan on narrowing down your list of colleges? I’m not even ready yet. I just want to have fun with the recruiting process and focus on making the right decision.

Sterling still has a lot of basketball left to be played and a lot of decisions to make. Obviously, this is the biggest year for him. It is the year all of the college coaches and scouts will look after him. They will show how interested they are and offer everything on the table. Sterling is just that good. We want to thank Sterling Gibbs for the interview and wish him the best of luck with his Junior year of school.
