Harrison Barnes is arguably the best player in the country for the class of 2010. He is an aggressive forward who averaged almost 20 points and 10 rebounds a game this year. He is being recruited by so many national powerhouses such as Duke, Kansas, North Carolina, and even his father’s alma mater, Iowa State. The big question is high school basketball next year is where will this top stud land. Because in my opinion, he is no diamond in the rough. I recently chatted a little with Harrison about basketball.
A lot of people would say you are the best basketball player in the class of 2010. How does it feel to have that recgonition? The recognition is cool, but it doesn’t really mean anything yet. It’s all about being able to back it up on the court at the next level.
There are many colleges that are after you. Do you have a favorite yet? I’ve been fortunate enough to be able to talk to a lot of schools. I’m just taking my time and enjoying the process right now.
What are your goals for your senior season of basketball? That’s easy! A state title.
How has the departure of John Calipari from Memphis to Kentucky impacted you? It hasn’t really. He’s a good coach. I don’t know if I like the way they’re doing things right there now though. Seems like he left Memphis kind of in a bad situation and then guys at Kentucky are getting their scholarships taken back. I don’t know yet. It’s a competitive place though, you know college basketball, and it’s only getting more and more competitive.
What was it like being honored as the Iowa’s Gatorade Player of the Year? The award was great. It’s always fun to be recognized. It really reflects how I am able to play with my teammates though. If they didn’t do what they’re capable of doing, no one would notice me.
Could you give a shoutout to our website, boxofmess.com?! Thanks for the love. Glad to talk to you guys at BoxofMess.com. Keep up the good work!
Harrison continues to show improvment and more wisdom. He already has matured a lot more than most high level prospects. He has the talent of the Lance Stephensons and Brandon Jennings’ out there but when it comes to charisma and ethics this guy knows what to do. We want to thank Harrison Barnes for the interview and wish him the best of luck for his senior season.
Note- This interview was done directly over the phone. Thanks to?Harrison himself for the picture.

Interesting comments. Good interview.
wow. barnes has major balls to call out calipari like that, love it. my respect for this kid just skyrocketed.
thats good if he did not want to go to that college
Coach Cal never took the scholarships from the players. They transferred on their own. He told them that they probably wouldn’t get the playing time at Kentucky that they deserved to have, so they left on their own. Both players (Pilgrim and Galloway) left with no ill will with Coach Cal or with Kentucky. As far as the Memphis incident is concerned that was more of a Women’s golf thing more then a basketball thing. The Derrick Rose thing involved his SAT not Coach Cal.
This young man has his head on straight. It is good to see he understands how Calipari operates. UK fans you can argue till the cows come home about your coach, but perception is reality. The perception is that Calipari is a snake. All of his antics may come back to haunt him and you.
First of all, lets analyze the situation with Kentucky and the scholarships. No one is taking anything away. What position was Galloway recruited for?..the PG…..what other position was he going to play..Uk is already stacked in that area….Cal leveled with him and told him the truth…and same with Pilgrim…look at the front court…patterson, orton, cousins,…these guys were not going to be able to play…feel sorry for Galloway that BCG did not do enough to let him grow as a player. Seriously KG could have started at point last year but BCG was so erratic…that he put porter, who is not a natural PG.. That is where the setback is. BCG lived on Acie laws success but didn’t do that for anyone else.
He left them in a bad situation?
Last I heard he wasn’t mentioned in ANY report.
Last I heard, the memphis decision hasn’t been made yet so I would think “bad situation” is a bit premature.
It’s not like he just decided to up and leave. Kentucky got rid of BCG and therefore needed a new coach, so he was asked.
Had Kentucky not been in this situation, he would still be sitting in memphis dealing with derek rose, and whoever is in charge of collecting reimbursement money.
The kid has ball skills no doubt, however, his reasoning skills
