Slade Heathcott is one of the biggest names in high school baseball. This outfielder has commited to play baseball at LSU. Although he commited there is a possibility he will go to the MLB Draft. Heathcott is projected to go very early in the first round. For an exclusive interview, we talked a little with the man himself in this Box Of M.E.S.S interview session.
Why are you choosing LSU for Baseball? “I chose?LSU because it just felt right. The program is amazing and the new stadium is better and the tradition is wonderful.”
How does it feel to be one of the top high school baseball players in America? “It feels great the be even considered in the top players. I have worked extrememly hard for it and I know the talent out there is great so that makes me feel good about all the time I have spent on baseball.”
Recently, we interviewed Patrick Schuster, the kid who threw 4 consecutive No hitters. What do you think of that feat? “The 4 no hitters?are a hell of a feat. It sounds like he has figured it out and everything is clicking together at the right time.”
You went to reconstruct your ACL in the offseason. Why was this? “I had?ACL surgery because of football in the fall. I was a tailback and it was a non contact injury.”
Will you stick with LSU for baseball or potentially sign with an MLB team out of high school? “There is a possiblility I will have the chance to play pro ball out of high school so we will see when the draft comes.”
If you could get drafted by any MLB team would would it be? “I would love either way. I would like to be drafted by the rangers just because it’s close to go?to so people can come to the game.”
Some scouts are worried about character issues. Why do you think they are wrong?? “Just because my parents have had problems doesn’t mean I will so I don’t have any problems that will be a problem at all.”
Why would you pick LSU over Texas, being that you are?from Texas and they have one of the top programs? “I have never liked Texas.”
What is the best part of your game, your fielding or hitting? Are you a power or contact hitter? “My best part of my game is that I am a five tool player. I can hit for power and contact. I have pretty good speed with quick reactions and my glove is pretty good.”
As you can see this native Texan has his goals set down and knows what he can do. The MLB Draft comes up in June and many teams are looking at drafting Slade.
