Man… doesn’t Florida have the greatest athletes out there?!? You can look anywhere in that state and you will find amazing players in all kinds of sports like Football, Baseball, Golf, Soccer, and more. But, you don’t have to always find these athletes at Florida State or at University of Florida; you can even find them at University of Central Florida and that is where I came across a great soccer player: Yvonne George. In her hometown of Central Florida, Yvonne has been performing well while playing at UCF producing 5 goals and 7 assists for the 2008 Fall Season. Once she was on the field, she took off, and never stopped. For the 2008 Season she was named to the All-C-USA Second Team, ranked fourth in C-USA with seven assists, and during the season she was selected as the C-USA Offensive Player of the Week by scoring the game-winner in the 84th minute to defeat No. 19 Florida. Clearly the temperature isn’t the only thing “on fire” here. With 14 wins, 3 ties, and 6 losts, Yvonne George along with her teammates had a good season and I can’t wait to see how they will perform next and how she will do in her Senior year at UCF.
Luckily, Yvonne had time to do an interview with us, Check it out below!

MessGirl-How does it feel to be one of the top producers on your team with 5 goals and 7 assists?
Yvonne George- Well to be honest, I wasn’t happy with my stats this year. Wish I could of put up some more numbers. But I was glad to have atleast 7 assists, because I was setting up another teammate for a goal.

MessGirl-In the 2008 Fall Season you guess advanced to the second round of NCAA tournament playing against Florida and lost 0-2, what are somethings your team could improve on for next season to advance farther in the tournament?
Yvonne George-In reality it comes down to the little things. We just need to have the 11 players that are on the field all winning there battle and being better then the person they are playing against, and working as hard as they can for the time they are out there.

MessGirl-As a highschooler, why did you choose to play for UCF?
Yvonne George-I was born and raised in Central Florida, and I love the area. I knew that UCF had a great soccer program, and great coaches, so when they recruited me, I already knew I wanted to play there.

MessGirl-What are some of your strengths as a forward? What are somethings you would like to work on?
Yvonne George-My most dominant strength is my speed. I am a tall and strong player so I am able to take on and beat defenders. I also am not a selfish player, I like taking the ball down the line and crossing it. Something I want to get better at, is being more dominant in the air, I am 5′9, so I should be winning almost every ball that comes in my range.

MessGirl-Who is your favorite soccer player (woman or man)?
Yvonne George-Michelle Akers. She is our volunteer assistant coach, and from meeting her and being around her, you just see her passion for the game. When she was still playing, she would dominate any player that was up against her, and I loved her mentality.

MessGirl-What team would you like to play against next year and why?
Yvonne George-Well we open up our season playing UNC, I am excited to play them. And of course I want to play UF again for revenge. It’s always a good battle when our teams play.

MessGirl-Do you think the incoming class of ‘13 will bring something to the table for your 2009 Fall Season?
Yvonne George-Yeah, we have an incoming class of 15 players, and they all bring something different. There is for sure a few girls that will make a big impact this year.

MessGirl-Do you plan on continuing soccer after your senior year at UCF?
Yvonne George- I’m not going to try and play professional or anything, but I am planning to play in co-ed leagues, and in the premier soccer league. I just want it to be fun!

MessGirl-What about your team makes you guys special and different from other teams?
Yvonne George-We have SO many personalities on our team, and we get along really well. We are all so competitive and our passion for soccer brings the best out of us, and we all put the team first.

MessGirl-Why do you enjoy playing in the Conference USA? Tell us somethings about why is this conference special?
Yvonne George-It’s a very competitive conference, we usually finish every year in first of second, so everyone gets so fired up to play us, and so it’s always a battle, so we enjoy it.

MessGirl-What are some of your future goals?
Yvonne George-I really want to have a great senior year, I want to play to my greatest ability, and not let my team down. I plan on graduating next summer, and I hope to find a successful job, hopefully something in sports marketing.

MessGirl-Besides soccer what are somethings you enjoy doing?
Yvonne George-I love watching sports! I LOVE to shop, never gets old. I like to be by the pool or at the beach. Anything outdoors I enjoy!

As you can see even great soccer players enjoy having a good time and doing “normal” things instead of soccer 24/7. Thank you Yvonne for doing an interview with us and writers at boxofmess.com wish you and your team GOOD LUCK for your 2009 Soccer season at UCF!
