In the heart of many cities are excellent academic and athletic schools. One of these schools is in the heart of the city of the Boston Red Sox; Boston College. Boston College is well known for being a fine academic and athletic college. Their football team has been performing and excelling very well in every season. But it’s not just football that does a good job, BC’s Women’s Soccer does well every time they are out on the field and one Eagle that stands out from the rest of them is Sophomore Sensation Brooke Knowlton. Just this past season Brooke has produced 9 goals and 3 assists making her one of the top producers on BC Women’s Soccer Team. With her performance and the teams performance, BC was able to get out a season score of 15-6-2. For 2008 season, Brooke was named to Soccer Buzz Elite Team of the week, First Boston College player to earn All-ACC Tournament Honors, Earned Soccer Buzz Northeat Region first-team honors, Was named to NEWISA first-team, and was named to the All-ACC Academic women’s soccer team. As you can see this girl has talent and is able to perform well and start 21 of the 23 games this season. Luckily we got in touch with Brooke Knowlton and was able to do an interview with her.
MessGirl-For the 2008 Fall Season you played in 23 games and started 21 games. Your final stats for the season where 9 goals and 3 assists making you one of the top producers on the team. How do you feel about your performance and setting a career high in goals, assists, and points?
Brooke Knowlton-My goal each year is to do better than I did the year before. I?m glad I accomplished this goal and I hope to keeping improving year after year.
MessGirl-For the 2008 season, you were the First Boston College player to earn All-ACC Tournament Honors, How do you feel about that?
Brooke Knowlton-I was very happy to receive that honor but I can?t take all the credit for it. Our team played a great game and without Amy Caldwell?s great assist, I never would have been able to score the goal that won the game.
MessGirl-In the NCAA tournament you guys fell to Florida St. losing 0-1, What do you think you guys should improve on or do next time to go on to the Semi-finals/Championship?
Brooke Knowlton-Since I am going to be a junior, and a majority of our team is older, we can no longer say that our team lacks experience in the tournament. We?ve all been there before and we?ve experienced the horrible feeling of defeat. I know that next year when we reach that game, we won?t let anything get in our way because we never want to feel like that again.
MessGirl-What are your strengths as a Forward? What are somethings you would like to improve on?
Brooke Knowlton-My technique and knowledge of the game is something that I need to improve on. My heading also could use some work. As far as my strengths go for being a forward, I think it would be my athleticism.
MessGirl-What do you think makes Boston College Women’s Soccer special and different from other college teams
Brooke Knowlton-How much can I write? Ha, well if anyone has visited Boston College they know what a beautiful place it is. BC?s academics is one of the best in the country and located in the best city in the country. BC soccer is so special because of our great coaching staff and closeness of our team. Alison Kulik is one of the best coaches I?ve ever had and she not only has taught me a lot on the field but really takes the time to get to know her players on a personal level. She truly cares about the well being of her players. In addition, our team has such a good sense of comradery and we honestly care about each other. We have a lot of fun together on and off the field. I don?t think a lot of other schools can say that about their team.
MessGirl-Who is your favorite soccer player and why? (male or female)
Brooke Knowlton-Michelle Akers because of her work ethic and tenacity.
MessGirl-What are some of your goals for Junior year?
Brooke Knowlton-As a team we would like to go undefeated in regular season and make it as far as we can in the tournament, which should be very far. I know that by accomplishing these goals, my own will fall into place.
MessGirl-What is your favorite moment while playing at BC?
Brooke Knowlton- It’s hard to pick one, but one that sticks out in my mind is when I won a header off a goal kick and hit it to Julia Bouchelle and she scored. We practiced this play in practice and it actually worked in the game, which doesn’t happen very often.
MessGirl-What do you think the incoming class of ‘13 will bring to the table for your team?
Brooke Knowlton-Each player is going to bring their unique style of play that will only help to improve our team. In addition it?s always fun having new personalities and not being one of the younger ones anymore.
MessGirl-What ranking next year would you like to get to or help your team get to next year?
Brooke Knowlton-I would be lying if I said I didn?t want the number 1 ranking. All I can say, is that we are going to work our hardest to get the best ranking we can, but when it comes down to it winning games is our ultimate goal and if we do that than I think we will be satisfied.
Messgirl-While in High school, Why did you choose to play at Boston College?
Brooke Knowlton-I loved how BC incorporated everything I wanted in a college. Great athletics, academics and location. I wanted a great education in a great city, while still competing at the highest level of soccer possible. I don?t think any other college can compete with those criteria.
MessGirl-Who inspired you to play soccer?
Brooke Knowlton-My parents were very athletic and got me involved in all types of sports when I was young. I think my brothers also helped with my decision to continue to play soccer because I am very competitive and they would never let me win. So when I did I know that I earned it.
MessGirl-What advice would you give to players out there who want to play college soccer?
Brooke Knowlton-You can do anything you set your mind to. It all depends on how bad you want it. and GOOD LUCK!
