Wake Forest is known for having the one of the “Top Men’s Soccer Program” out there. For the 2008 season, Wake Forest was ranked # 2 for NCAA Men’s Soccer RPI, College Soccer News Division I Rankings and NSCAA/adidas Division I Rankings behind the NCAA Men’s Soccer Champions, Maryland. When you think of Wake Forest Soccer, the first thing that comes to mind is their soccer phenom, Cody Arnoux. Cody has been a top producer/asset to the team since 2006 and has been recognized for his hard work by being named All-ACC First Team,NSCAA Second Team All-American, and M.A.C. Hermann Trophy Semifinalist for 2008. What comes as a shocker is there was a probability that this amazing player could of gone on to play baseball in college!! Luckily this amazing player stuck with soccer and has been growing and performing better each year he plays at Wake Forest.
I was lucky enough to interview this skilled player.
?
MessGirl-How does it feel to be known as a top producer on your team; scoring a team high 17 goals and having 8 assists this season?
Cody Arnoux- It feels good to be able to help my team in terms of scoring goals. I got off to slow start this year, but towards the middle and end of the season I started to find the back of the net.
MessGirl-For 2008, you guys got to the semi-finals against North Carolina and lost 0-1. What do you think you guys could of done to surpass that stage to get to the Championship game?
Cody Arnoux-UNC came out and surprised us with an early goal. Because of that we ended up chasing the game. If we had come out with a better defensive mindset from the start of the game, we could have prevented that goal and then been able to play our game.
MessGirl-What are some of your goals for next season?
Cody Arnoux-For the past two years, I have had the priveledge of receiving all-acc and all-american honors, so I hope that I will be able to receive those honors again. As for the team, we are playing well now in the spring, and we have set our sights on getting back to the Final Four for the fourth staright year and winning the National Championship.
Messgirl-As a Forward, What are your strengths? What are somethings you think you can improve on?
Cody Arnoux-Two of my main strength’s is my ability to finish around the box and my speed. Some parts of my game that need improvement is my ability to hold the ball up, and eliminating my one touch turnovers
MessGirl-What do you think the incoming class of ’13 can bring to the table for next season?
Cody Arnoux-We graduated eight seniors in the fall, so we will have some gaps to fill and with this new class coming in hopefully they will be able to fill some of the holes.
MessGirl-What team do you hope or look forward to playing against next season?
Cody Arnoux-I am really excited to get another crack at UNC. They beat us in the final four last year, so when we play them this upcoming year, it will be a real special one.
MessGirl-Who is your favorite soccer player?
Cody Arnoux-Currently, my favorite player is Fernando Torres. He plays forward for Liverpool and Spain. My next favorite player Lionel Messi. He plays midfield and forward for Barcelona and Argentina.
MessGirl-Who inspired you to play soccer?
Cody Arnoux-Growing up I played soccer and baseball. I was actaully better at baseball, but I enjoyed soccer more and my parents supported me in choosing soccer. So i guess I wasn’t really inspired by anyone, but instead just went with what I loved.
MessGirl-So far how has your experience been at Wake Forest and on the Men’s Soccer Team?
Cody Arnoux-My experience at Wake Forest has been unbelieveable. We have been to 3 straight final fours and won a National Chamionship in 2007. The friends and memories that I have made and been apart of is something I will take with me for the rest of my life
MessGirl-Do you plan on playing professional soccer after college?
Cody Arnoux-I do plan on attempting to play professionally after college. Hopefully I will have big senior year and I will stir up some interest in me from some pro teams.
MessGirl-What makes Wake Forest’s Mens Soccer team special and different from other college teams?
Cody Arnoux-Our program is run very well by our coaching staff. We take the extra measures to make sure that the players everything they need to succeed both on and off the field. The atmosphere surrounding the program resembles that of a professional organization
MessGirl-If you had to describe your team in three words what would it be?
Cody Arnoux-dedicated, hardworking, and caring
MessGirl-What advice would you give out to kids who want to play soccer in college?
Cody Arnoux-Anyone out there looking to play college ball needs to understand that it is a full time job. With school and soccer combined, it leaves little time for other things. You have to be hardowrking and deidcated to what you do. You also have to be willing to learn and listen because one any coaches desired traits is their coachability.
We look forward to watching Cody play his last year at Wake Forest next year and hope that his team will take that tiny little step up to the #1 spot beating Maryland. Writers at boxofmess.com will be cheering Cody Arnoux on to victory and we also say good luck to him. With hardwork, you can go anywhere and do anything. All you have to do is set your mind to it and than go for gold!
