The rankings are in! Cal State Fullerton is the #1 team America for College Baseball. Fullerton is not cosidered a large college for sports, but when it comes to baseball, they are one of the top teams. Nick Ramirez is an incoming Freshman with the team and has a very bright future. We got an interview with the 6′3 Frosh… Here it is!
What are your expectations for yourself this season?
“My expectations for myself are to play my game that i know how to play and be a freshman all american.”
How does it feel being ranked as the #1 team in the country?
“It is a huge honor, it is my first team being a team that is ranked number 1 in the nation, but then again i feel we deserve it as a team but we want to be ranked number 1 when it matters, at the end of the season.”
Do you think college baseball is unappreciated compared to college football and basketball?
“I feel college baseball is overlooked compared to football and basketball, I would like our games televised just as much as football and basketball.”
Do you plan to stay at Cal State Fullerton for all 4 years or are you planning to look at the possibilities of the MLB Draft?
“I am definitely planning on the MLB draft.”
Why did you pick CSFU over other teams, besides being #1 in the country?
“When it came down to it, choosing was easy, CSUF is right down the street from my hometown, i can play infront of my friends and family and the coaching staff is outstanding. Easily one of the best programs in the nation and it made my choice easy.”
How far do you think you guys can go this season?
“The team we have is what some may say “special” our chemistry is there and we really work as a team. If we continue to play our game like we have been i think we have a great chance of winning a national championship.”
What is your view on steroids in the game of baseball today?
“I feel steriods are completely wrong but what people dont understand is that you still have to hit the ball, and perform. I would never consider steriods.”
Who is your role model when it comes to baseball? If they have not taken steroids, does it make you think a lot more of them or does it not matter to you?
“When it comes down to it, I look up to a few players. Manny Ramirez, purest hitter in the game, it is amazing to watch him work at the plate. Alex Rodriguez, steriods or not, easily one of the premiere athletes in the game. Ryan Howard makes hitting looks effortless. his power is unreal.”
Bases Loaded, 2 outs, Bottom of the 9th, Down by 1, Do you want to be the guy at the plate hitting or do you want to be the guy on 2nd baseman trying to beat the potential throw home?
“I want to be that guy at the plate, those are the times you dream of as a kid.”
What is the best part of your game? What do you need to improve on?
“The best part of my game is my hitting, though i still need to improve daily if i want to be where i expect myself to be.”
Ramirez looks to have a big season and will certainly help make an impact on the National Title hopes of CSFU this year. He has championship experience though! Last year, he delivered his high school team, the Katella Knights, an Empire League Championship. While doing this, he was named MVP?of the league. We wish the best of luck to Nick and his teammates this year!
